Far-field positive phase blast parameter characterisation of RDX and PETN based explosives

A significant amount of scientific effort has been dedicated to measuring and understanding the effects explosions, leading development semi-empirical methods for rapid prediction blast load parameters. The most well-known these, termed Kingery Bulmash method, makes use polylogarithmic curves derived from a compilation medium large scale experimental tests performed over many decades. However, there is still no general consensus on accuracy validity this approach, despite some researchers reporting consistently high levels agreement. Further, it not known whether loading can be considered deterministic, or intrinsically variable, extent variability, range scales which these variations are observed. This article critically reviews historic contemporary experiments, including newly generated arena with RDX PETN-based explosives, view demonstrating parameters predicted using approaches.
